This was always going to be a difficult game for the Bolton Bulls coming up against a team who were undefeated so far this season. Even more so given that they were hit with injuries and absence which very nearly left them with only five players to compete. As it turned out the player situation became a little more numerous, but it still meant that Chairman Steve had to perform heroics and put in a full 40 minutes & captain Tom had to play whilst injured.
The first quarter was exactly as hard as expected, the Tees Titans quickly posting 23 points. A plucky and hard defending Bolton Bulls team manage to trouble the scoreboard to the tune of six points, but it was going to be a long afternoon… Not quite sure what our rehydration engineer, Peter (my dad, no less) put in the water during the quarter break, but it worked. The Bulls came out all guns blazing and whilst it might not have been pretty basketball it sure was hard. Hustle and strong defence saw the Bulls emerge from the quarter having gone step for step with the undefeated Titans; 10 points each in that quarter. Half-time score: Bolton Bulls 16; Tees Titans 33 Fatigue started to affect a short-handed Bulls team, but the determination remained. I realise that as you gaze upon the scoreline up there in the title, it might not give the impression that the team worked their wobbly bits off and kept going to the very last; but they did. I'm not even going to include the quarter scores for the second half here, because it simply tells you nothing. I've seen this team play a lot worse and only go down by a handful of points. In fact, I've seen them play worse and win. Today, they could not be accused of that. They played hard and simply came up against a better team. Respect to the team for the effort given the available squad. Final Score:Bolton Bulls 30 - 74 Tees Titans Before I go; I only went and scored my first basket of the season in this game. About time, eh? Michael #8
