The Bolton Bulls wheelchair basketball club provides wheelchair basketball to people of all ages, disabilities and gender from all over the North West of England including Bolton, Bury, Blackburn, Wigan and Stockport.
As the clocks went forward but Spring was nowhere to be found on a rainy Sunday, Bolton Bulls Wheelchair Basketball Club played host to Manchester Mavericks 2 in the GBWBA Division 3 North/Midlands section.
The starting five for Bolton was: Darren Birch, Tom Eckersley, Andy Golightly, Graeme Lambert and Steve Aston.
Bolton Bulls got off to a good start with Darren Birch scoring the first basket of the game, but Mavericks replied quickly keeping the score level. From there Manchester got a grip on the first quarter while Bolton Bulls struggled to get the ball to drop despite getting scoring opportunities. It would end 10-6 in favour of Manchester Mavericks.
Bolton Bulls would battle in the second half to reduce the early deficit, with Andy Golightly, Tom Eckersley and Graeme Lambert all adding to the Bulls score. Manchester Mavericks would match them basket-for-basket with both teams bagging 6 points each in the second quarter.
Half-time score: Bolton Bulls 10, Manchester Mavericks 16.
In the third quarter Dale Speight would open Bolton Bulls second half account; Graeme Lambert would pick up two baskets to add 6 points to the running total. Manchester Mavericks would pull further in front by adding 9 points to their own tally.
Bolton Bulls continued to struggle in the fourth quarter; Chris Oakes-Courchene and Graeme Lambert scoring the only baskets for the home team, whilst Manchester Mavericks pressed home their advantage adding 10 more points to the scoreboard.
Final score: Bolton Bulls 20, Manchester Mavericks 35
